I just came across this recent scam that affects us here in Indiana. Apparently scammers are impersonating the Indiana Attorney General’s Office by using a forgery of the official seal for its letterhead and have forged the Attorney General’s signature as well.

The scam claims to offer $2 million in prize money, but you first must pay certain fee and taxes to receive the award if you are declared a “winner”. Once the fees are paid via a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer, it is too late and you have fallen for the scam. Furthermore, the scammers go to extra lengths impersonating the Indiana Attorney General’s Office with a letter to Indiana consumers stating that it has performed a thorough investigation determining the offer is legitimate. They even provide information about an agent that works for “Mega Millions Headquarters” and that he will present you with your winnings.

If you receive this letter or anything resembling this type of scam, please contact the Attorney General’s Office by filing a complaint online at www.IndianaConsumer.com or call 1-800-382-5516.
